ELECTION DAY PLEDGE
In advance of the 2020 US General Election, we called on all American Jewish organizations to commit to closing for business on Election Day.
Grounded in the belief that it is our duty to make voting accessible to all and to remove all barriers that might stand in the way, we called on all American Jewish organizations to commit to closing for business on Election Day. **
In 2020, given social-distancing restrictions related to COVID-19, exceptionally long lines, and expected poll-worker shortages, this commitment was more important than ever.
We draw inspiration from the movement over the past decade to position Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as a day of service. With offices closed, employees of Jewish institutions are free to embrace and support the democratic process happening all around the country — including but not limited to standing in line to vote, volunteering or working at polling locations, participating in election protection work, and supporting nonpartisan GOTV efforts. Together, we took the first step to making November 3, 2020 a Day of Democracy.
**Those who were otherwise closed but had to remain partially open for election-related work to ensure a free and fair election were welcome to sign the pledge.
